How to Train a Dog Using the Clicker Training Method

Learning how to train a dog to behave positively by using the clicker training method is not only effective, but can also be a lot of fun. You should always start by giving short lessons and you can repeat them throughout the day as this way your dog continues to learn and doesn’t get frustrated or bored.

Many people don’t fully understand how to train a dog to behave properly using positive reinforcement and this is where the clicker device comes in handy. One of the best ways to start your clicker training is to teach your dog the site command. This is a natural behavior for the dog (which makes it easier to learn) and is also one of the most useful commands – you can use it to keep your dog safe (so they don’t run into the street, etc), keep your dog from acting badly around people and other dogs, and it also establishes you as the leader of the pack.

Many people don’t understand how much more effective positive reinforcement methods (like clicker training) are than punishment (hitting or scolding the dog), but research has shown positive training methods are significantly more effective. The dog enjoys the training more, has a much easier time understanding what behaviors you want and don’t want, and is  encouraged to learn more and more.

The clicker device is very useful in reinforcing positive habits in your dog because whenever you dog shows positive behavior or follows your command then you make a clicking sound with the clicker and follow it with a treat.

If you want to learn how to train a dog to sit (or anything else), I highly recommend using the following clicker training method – Clickertraining: The 4 Secrets Of Becoming A Supertrainer. You can read my review here. This is one of the best training methods I’ve ever seen. One of the keys you’ll learn to effective clicker training is to make sure you reward the dog quickly after making the clicking sound with the clicker. If you want to train your dog to sit, when the dog sits, click and then immediately give the dog a treat.  This will make him understand the positive behavior that you appreciate faster and he will also learn to associate your command with the actions accordingly.

You have to continuously repeat the command so that your dog becomes conditioned in following the pattern but never train them for longer than 15 minutes as they will be over worked up and will be bored. And soon as the dog starts to understand t and obey the basic commands you can start with the advanced training.

Always keep note that your dog will likely follow the positive behavior if you use positive reinforcement as force and dominance never give out positive results. Good luck to you!
